Observation

We found our onsite visits extremely useful, the interior dining space was a constant source of inspiration throughout the project. We were drawn to the elements within the restaurant that demonstrated the importance of locally sourced produce and advertised their closed loop methodology.

Material tests

We wanted to explore alternative materials that used the restaurant's waste products. We experimented individually in our personal design disciplines, using skills from chemistry to ceramics. This helped drive us towards our collective aim to create a sustainable, functional product for Where the Light Gets In.

Refinement & Design

The Communi-Shelves project is an innovative use of recycled waste materials that demonstrates how alternative, sustainable materials can be developed in an accessible and low-tech way. We hope to inspire others to question their own responses to sustainable design, as well as create a versatile product that compliments the interior space it resides in.
